I’m in love with electronic music and social gatherings. I’ve been helping produce and promote electronic music events since I moved to New York. I’ve always wanted my own sound system. I’ve been eyeing and auditioning EAW’s for years. I’ve worked with them professionally and never been disappointed. I really want them, but they’re too expensive for me to justify the cost.
My friend Ben Light-o-matic has been upgrading his sound system and had a nice pair of Electrovoice Eliminator i’s and a QSC RMX 2450 amplifier for sale. I know these speakers, I know they’ve been well maintained, and I took the plunge and got them.
This is the first major purchase towards my new sound system. I’ve got three more purchases before the rig is complete. The first will be the Eliminator i Subs that match the tops. Its pretty much a given that I need the bottom end. I play bass guitar and love the feeling good deep breaks leave in my belly.
Second on my shopping list is a good processor. I need to protect all this gear from those silly DJ’s who just want to play loud and think red lights on the mixer are good. I’m pretty sure the DBX Driverack 260 will be my choice. You can’t beat everything you get in a 1U, I just wish they’d release a 96k version like the4800’s.
Finally I’d like to get one of the QSC PLX2 2502’s to run the system bi-amped. I should be able to run the whole system, subs and tops, on just the RMX 2450, but I don’t really want to starve the cabinets for power or push my amp for too long. I get more room to play with the crossover points in the bi-amped configuration as well.
For now when these eliminators are not partying they’re going to be slaved to my home entertainment system… Time for some halo.
… oh yeah there is rumor of something called beatz ‘n bbq that begins in april…
